from work to gators!

This week has been super crazy!!! I can't believe its only been a week! So much has happened! Last Sunday we went into New Orleans! It was super fun and also a little cold! It was nice to see other teams down there also. We are the only AmeriCorps team here in lake charles so we are a little isolated. I can't wait to spend more time in NOLA for spring break! Jamie gave us a little tour which was nice, and my eyes where opened hugely!

This week we spent finishing up the houses we need to finish for our CO's. Our team is rocking hard core cause we are ahead of schedule! Sadly we have become a team of 7, including our tl, until may but wolf 7 still rocks and is working even harder than before!

The weather here has been super nice! 70's all week. We did have a thunder storm! I was so shocked that it only lasted 2 hours. The wind was so strong i swore the roof of our trailor was going to fly off!!! Lucky it didn't! But it created a lot of mudd! Eryn, Morris, Mercedes, and myself got super muddy!!! Morris fell in the mud a few times. It was super fun tho!!!!! Ill post pics of that adventure soon this week!

This weekend we worked a book fair and went to the gulf of mexico at holly beach. It was the most disgusting beach i have ever seen in my life! It was so brown and there were dead fish along the coast line! YUCK!!!!! We could see at least 15 oil tanker/divers on out in the ocean so i am fairly certain that there is oil and chemicals in this part of the gulf! I did see 2 gators on the side of the highway just chilling so that was cool! I will try and get those pics up shortly as well!!!

Down a NOLA street!
St benard parish lower 9th ward
Out team in our local paper :)
Meagan found this puppy in a ditch starved with a HUGE belly of warms. We named him Quaka wolf 7. Lucky our sponsor adopted him and saved him from the animal control people who were going to euthanise him :( just because he is a pug. It horrible to live in a place like that! Makes me happy to be from such an awesome state thats cares about all creatures! Our sponsor says he is doing well but is blind! They named him Wolf after our team!!!

Seriously They had a Tiger at a gas station here in LA! His name is tony! Its very depressing!

The Lower 9th ward! This is where the levi's brooke! This house had toxic flood water and 1 person found dead! They are slowly rebuilding this area with pretty awesome looking houses and they now have to be a certain level above the ground!

Meagan and I at Cafe Du Monde! Great Coffee and beignets!

This is the new levi, but this is the spot that the boat went threw and brook the levi and caused soo Much distruction!

The Start!

A lot has happened in the last week! SO much that this will be a LONG post! First off.... INDUCTION! Friday was induction. It was the beginning of the start! We were Sworn in with our oath and had CAKE! Then was the super duper talent show! The AmeriCorps Talent Show that Amanda and I set up with the Help from my awesome TL Jamie! It was a total smash!

Saturday we then hit the road for our first round down to Lake Charles Louisiana. We left at 8 am. We did have house inspections tho 6:30 am. That was SO fun! We made it for 2 hours before anything major happened! But it was a minor incident and all is well! It only delayed us for an hourish. We drove \ through Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and Tennessee. We slept in Chatanooga TN at a super 8! The beds were the best part! THEY WERE AMAZING!!!! Meagan and I wanted to steal it and strap it to our van and take it with us. But we didn't! We then hit the road at 7:30, tho it felt like 6:30 cause of daylight savings. But with in less than an hour we drove into a new time zone so it was like never changing the clock! I have decided that if you must change clocks, travel that day hahaha. Sunday we drove the rest of TN, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana! We got to Lake Charles at around 8pm. We had to drop off equipment in New Orleans so we "got lost" in the french quarter for about 20 min! I can't wait for spring break to go down and see it :) i am buying my train tickets tomorrow!:) i can't wait! Most of my team is going so it will be a PARTY!
Monday we started work for Habitat for Humanity (HFH) we painted, painted, painted some more! Tuesday we finished painting and started putting in floor :) I got a lot of my phone calls made so that was even more of a bonus! I am getting the hang of calling people/organizations I don't know and just asking if they need help so that a good thing!
Today we finished the floor and started putting up the cabinets in the kitchen. But as you can tell the road trip was the most fun! SO here are some pics of the trip and NOLA!

So i must share with you all my love of the 80's! Who doesn't love comfy, bright, tubular cloths? I mean seriously hair bands and bright beads??? How could you go wrong?? or even miss the leggings? there is a reason why they are coming back:)
So basically, those of us at the point were told it was 80's night at the Vouz! And let me tell you you, you tell us its 80's night( or any dress up night) we are going to go to town with that!

Mini Spike

The last four days have been full of busy busy busy time! I was on my "mini spike", which is a three/four day spike. It is to get us ready for our big one next week after induction!
We were in middleburg va at camp high road! We were doing invasive speices removal, which ment that we cut down lots of trees and brush/ thickit that was bad and moved it! It was a good
log work out! The first night we had a Bon fire of our huge pile!

I also had a log thrown at me due to a miss communication! Which now is an awesome bruise!

It's right below my left knee! The welt has gone down, but it's my first "AmeriBruise" hahahaha!
I really enjoyed the team building that came out of the mini spike! I feel alot closet to all on my team! I am also even more pumped about next week:)
The drive home today was SUPER long but very adventurous! A two plus hour drive turned into a five
Plus hour drive and we also got a little lost in north DC! Traffic was a pain in th tukus!

It was an awesome adventure!

4/11 team members in our very packed van/home that we call Clifford! This is at hour 3 of the when will we be home-a-thon! Usually dc is an hour and a half this day it was a two plus hour trip! Hahaha it feels good to be home and able to be in my bed and shower!
Till next time XOXO
